I'm always working on something. Most of the time, it's getting results for my clients. But sometimes, it's a personal project that lets me explore new concepts and ideas.

Kuninga 18 (1696)

Heritage house, Baroque architecture in Estonia

A Baroque building made of stones, the Clementimaja was established in 1696. The first owner was a Swedish merchant Matthias Clement, who became a resident of Pärnu in 1685. The construction of Clementimaja lasted three to four years and was completed in 1696.  There had been two major reconstructions since: the first one took place in the early 19th century and the second in the second decade of the 20th century. Alterations had been introduced to the façade, the extensions in the courtyard, and the exterior finishes. Since 1924, an extension has been made to the auxiliary house and the ground floor of the building has been converted into a dining room.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the structure underwent major repairs, resulting in a departure from its Baroque roots. And in 1983, the Clementimaja was once again renovated for the relocation of the National Institute for Cultural Heritage to its premises. In 1984, the Heritage Board authorized the reconstruction of the main building’s roof. During the course of reconstruction from 1984 to 1987, the north-west and south façade of the building had been restored to their original, 17th century appearances, while the eastern façade from the 19th century remained. In 2017, Clementimaja was purchased by a Hong Kong merchant. The Hong Kong merchant sought to revitalize Clementimaja and received approval from the City Government in 2018. The renovation was finally completed in early 2019 and the house has become a multi-purpose building, comprising two antique apartments; two offices and one restaurant in the main building; and eight serviced apartments in the auxiliary building.
